Jorge Bayona

Jorge Bayona es profesor-investigador del Centro de Estudios de Asia y África de El Colegio de México. Obtuvo su doctorado en Historia en la University of Washington, Seattle, donde se especializó en Filipinas y el Sureste de Asia. Fue investigador postdoctoral en el Asia Research Institute (ARI) de la National University of Singapore y es investigador afiliado al Center for Southeast Asian Studies de la University of Wisconsin-Madison. Sus investigaciones exploran temas de imperio y colonialismo en el Sureste de Asia y han sido publicadas en TRaNS: Trans-Regional and -National Studies of Southeast Asia y Verge: Studies in Global Asias.

Kelly Van Acker es estudiante doctoral en Historia en la University of Washington, Seattle, donde se especializa en Filipinas y el Sureste de Asia. Obtuvo su maestría en Historia en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, donde obtuvo el Fondo Extraordinario de Apoyo a la Investigación para estudiantes en 2022 por su tesis titulada “‘Ninguna fuerza humana podrá arrancar el castellano de las Islas Filipinas’: language and anticolonial struggle in the Philippines, 1920-1930”.

Resumen

Para quienes observan a Filipinas, la principal preocupación del periodo 2022- 2023 ha sido el rumbo del nuevo gobierno de Ferdinand Marcos Jr. con Sara Duterte (la hija de Rodrigo Duterte) como su vicepresidenta. Con la sombra del autoritarismo de su propio padre parecía verosímil que las políticas internas y externas de su predecesor podrían continuar. Si bien el gobierno de Marcos no ha constituido un cambio radical, tampoco ha seguido sus pasos en todos los puntos. En política exterior, Filipinas ha virado hacia un realineamiento con Estados Unidos; en temas internos ha habido algunas mejoras marginales. Es todavía el primer año de gobierno, así que es difícil predecir lo que ocurrirá después.
