Francisco Haro Navejas es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (México), nivel II, y ha ofrecido cursos en El Colegio de México y en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona sobre varios tópicos relacionados con China. Está adscrito a la Facultad de Economía de la Universidad de Colima. Resumen

Este trabajo sobre China y Hong Kong durante 2021 cubre apenas algunos aspectos de lo acontecido en su seno o de aquello que les afectó. El eje del texto es el evento político principal del año: el centésimo aniversario del Partido Comunista Chino (PCC). Alrededor de esta celebración se ordenaron los discursos y las acciones de la élite política dominante en China, entre los que sobresalen todos los eventos realizados para celebrar la fundación del partido y la liberación de Meng Wanzhou en Canadá, para no hablar de cada uno de los discursos de Xi Jinping, presidente y secretario general del PCC. Se describen parcialmente las crisis de un gigante de bienes raíces y la de la generación de energía, temas encuadrados dentro de las previsiones que se presentaron públicamente sobre los acontecimientos que podrían haberse avecinado. El artículo examina diferentes aspectos de las relaciones internacionales de China con algunos países de las Américas, entre ellos Canadá, Estados Unidos, México y algunos de América del Sur, como Brasil, Chile y Ecuador. Dado el contexto actual, se presta atención relevante a las relaciones con Australia y los cambios que se producen en el statu quo de la región. La demografía es un tema clave en el texto, que analiza el censo de 2020, cuyos resultados fueron dados a conocer en 2021. Otros aspectos presentes incluyen el mundo laboral, el cine y la política dentro de la industria de la moda. En el caso de Hong Kong se abordan las secuelas de la Ley de Seguridad Nacional y la aprobación de las reformas a la ley electoral, así como las propuestas económicas para poner esta región administrativa especial sobre sus pies.
