Resumen
Durante 2022 en Australia se vivieron acontecimientos intensos que tuvieron como contexto el fin de la pandemia de covid-19 y las batallas políticas que llevaron a la realización de elecciones federales en mayo. En este trabajo se expondrán indicadores económicos que muestran un impacto leve del virus en la economía y una recuperación consistente, además de exitosa, materializada en incremento del empleo, control inflacionario, expansión del comercio internacional, entre otras variables. El bipartidismo se ha fortalecido, y han regresado los liberales como la fuerza política de mayor poder con varios desafíos complejos, principalmente la economía y la relación con China, tema central en la agenda doméstica. El fortalecimiento de China y las políticas estadounidenses en la región obligan a los australianos a plegarse al Quad y al llamado Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF). Alrededor de lo anterior giran relaciones específicas con India y Japón, principalmente. Este trabajo muestra que los australianos despliegan sus propias iniciativas internacionales, particularmente relacionadas con cooperación y con Beijing.
