Fabricio Fonseca

Fabricio A. Fonseca es profesor e investigador en el Departamento de Diplomacia y coordinador del Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Facultad de Asuntos Internacionales en la Universidad Nacional de Chengchi, en Taipéi. Es doctor en estudios de Asia Pacífico, con especialidad en economía política internacional, por la misma universidad. Tiene también el grado de maestro en estudios de Asia y África, en el área de China, por El Colegio de México. Sus intereses de investigación giran en torno a diferentes aspectos de las relaciones de Asia Oriental con América Latina, así como política y desarrollo comparados entre países de ambas regiones. Ha participado en diversos congresos internacionales y publicado artículos de investigación en revistas especializadas y capítulos de libros, entre ellos “Public Diplomacy at Work: Economic and Cultural Ties between Mexico and Taiwan”, en Taiwan’s Relations with Latin America, editado por He Li y Antonio C. Hsiang (Lexington Books, 2021), y en coautoría con Moisés de Souza, “Decolonization, Democratization, and Pragmatism”, en Assessing the Landscape of Taiwan and Korean Studies in Comparison, editado por J. Bruce Jacobs, Niki J. P. Alsford y Sojin Lim (Brill, 2021).

Resumen

Durante 2024 la situación de Taiwán estuvo marcada por un repunte del crecimiento económico, aunque acompañado de una serie de retos derivados de desastres naturales. Tras las elecciones de enero surgió un gobierno dividido, con los poderes ejecutivo y legislativo controlados por partidos diferentes. Ello trajo conflictos políticos y movilización social. También hubo una profundización de las tensiones en las relaciones entre ambos lados del Estrecho de Taiwán, así como un mayor acercamiento de la isla con Estados Unidos. De igual manera, el conflicto comenzó a dar muestra de una creciente internacionalización, con la navegación por las aguas del estrecho de convoyes y buques militares provenientes de otros países aliados de Washington.
